outline:
Paying homage to Surrealism, the French artistic, intellectual and literary movement oriented toward the liberation of the mind , "Happy like the Moon" is a poetic film merging dream and reality. The film goes against all logic or rationality, plunging the spectator into a series of surreal situations, breaking all habitual patterns. The characters move like in dream, without constraints of space and time, wandering in illusory limbos, from one strange place to another. A unique sensorial experience, the film embarks on a wild, hallucinatory ride into the depth of our consciousness, in a magic forest of signs and symbols.
Pitch/synopsis:
"Happy like the Moon" recounts the nocturnal stroll of ayoung man, confronted to his own fears, desires and projections, symbolized by the different surreal situations and strange people he meets during his wandering (real or imaginary?). A dream-like trip into the unconscious, a radical experience, full of surprises and discoveries...

comments:
Dictionary: Surrealism, n. Pure psychic automatism, by which one proposes to express, either verbally, or in writing, or by any other manner, the real functioning of thought. Dictation of thought in the absence of all control exercised by reason, outside of all aesthetic and moral preoccupations.
This film project dates back from 1993. I got the idea when I was in Australia, in the Blue Mountains of the East Coast. Then I was wery fond of Surrealism and quite surprised that so few surrealist films have been made so far, although cinema seems to me a perfect vessel for expressing the essence of Surrealism. So I wrote this film project to pay homage to the Surrealists and try to continue to explore today their artistic and cultural path, initiated in the 20s in Paris by André Breton.

This very personal film project really matters to me because I strongly believe that Surrealist Cinema, still unexploited, will be a majour genre in the future, exploding all rational narrative structures of classical cinema.
